Your STEM career

A postgraduate degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) can be a great way to boost your career prospects whilst letting you spend more time studying what you’re passionate about – and by studying your Masters in the UK, you’ll also be developing your English language skills on top of this. This can improve your job prospects even more, by making you an internationally employable graduate.

Our Accelerated Pre-Masters Programme in Computing, Engineering and Health Sciences is a one-term programme of study designed to help you gain the subject knowledge and English language skills necessary to thrive at a UK university – particularly the subject-specific vocabulary you will need to get the most out of your degree.

Please note that you are expected to attend 100% of your classes at the International Study Centre or you are at risk of losing your Student visa.

Academic English Skills aims to provide thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable international students to best achieve their academic potential at university. Our Academic English programme is validated by UK ENIC, the UK government agency responsible for providing information and expert opinion on qualifications and skills worldwide.

You will develop awareness and competency in a range of language-related academic skills, including the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.

Alongside your classes, your studies will be supported by an online learning platform, providing you with a range of tasks and activities specifically designed to develop and extend your language and academic skills outside the classroom and to give you more control over your own learning.

The individual project provides students with a learning experience that will enable them to carry out independent research. Students are expected to plan, research, gather and analyse data, and execute their project while developing skills in critical judgement and independent working.

The main aim of this module is to strengthen the practical and communication skills necessary for Masters study. Acquisition of these skills will form the building blocks of students’ ability to demonstrate their knowledge and skills as they progress through the programme.

This module introduces modern mathematics by teaching maths alongside engineering and programming. What students learn in this module will support mathematical content in core modules throughout the programme. Students will be introduced to core mathematical tools for modelling engineering and computer systems which will be developed further when they progress onto their master’s programme.
